Our Horses

We have been lucky to find many wonderful horses for our summer programs. Some of the horses, we are sure the children would agree, are invaluable in teaching us patience as well as critical riding and handling skills!

In memory of Xeno (1980-2007)

Xeno came to Mackinac as a green six year old and spent the next 20 consecutive summers here as a riding and driving horse. For his first five years he was Mary Milton’s favorite mount and for the past 15 years he has been the Dunnigan family companion and reliable trooper. He did it
all from handicapped riding mount, lessons, equestrian team , recognizedhunter and dressage showing, to foxhunting and trail riding. He was at every Island horse show for 2 decades, I’m not sure how many “titles” he actually won, but I know it was at least 5, plus a ton of ribbons of every color. …. Candi
